
Nathaniel is the Founder of Marshall Workplace Law and the driving force behind the firm’s workplace investigations practice. Organizations seek him out for his ability to navigate complex and sensitive matters across a range of sectors, including police services, school boards, universities, hospitals, municipalities, financial institutions, and crown corporations. He has established a national presence and is known for providing exceptional client service when managing challenging investigations.

Having conducted hundreds of workplace investigations, Nathaniel is adept at developing and implementing bespoke processes that are designed to limit disruption to the work environment. Even in high pressure situations, Nathaniel always ensures that his investigations are culturally sensitive, trauma-informed, procedurally fair, and capable of withstanding legal scrutiny. Nathaniel is frequently retained to conduct investigations allegations of workplace harassment, discrimination (specifically anti-Black racism), employer-specific policy breaches, and conflicts of interests. In doing so, he leverages the accredited training he has received pertaining to Ontario’s Occupational Health and Safety Act, Human Rights Code, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, as well as federally with respect to the Canada Labour Code, Part II and Violence in the Workplace.
Nathaniel is a frequent speaker at the Law Society of Ontario, Osgoode Professional Development, Lancaster House, as well as Black HR Professionals of Canada and sector-specific workplace conferences. He has been recognized as one of HRLaw Canada’s top 5 lawyers under 40 in 2025, as well as one of Lexpert’s One to Watch in the field of human rights in both 2024 and 2025. Under his guidance, Marshall Workplace Law was also named Canada’s Workplace Investigation Firm of the year in 2026 by Manage HR Magazine.

A graduate of Dalhousie University (B.A., Dean’s List, Political Science; J.D.), Nathaniel was an active member of the Indigenous Black & Mi’kmaq Initiative. He has been called to the bar in Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Nunavut.
