MEET THE TEAM

NATHANIEL
MARSHALL
FOUNDER, EMPLOYMENT LAWYER & WORKPLACE INVESTIGATOR
Nathaniel is the founder of Marshall Workplace Law. He is a prominent workplace investigator and is known for conducting complex investigations in a variety of sectors including police services, school boards, universities, hospitals, municipalities, and crown corporations. Nathaniel provides proactive solutions that are tailored to each client’s workplace culture and not only designs processes to address their specific needs, but also withstand legal scrutiny. Additionally, Nathaniel is sought out for his expertise in conducting investigations related to applicable human rights legislation, and specifically with regard to anti-Black racism. He received a Bachelor of Arts (Dean’s List) in Political Science, and a Juris Doctorate, both from Dalhousie University, where he was a member of the Indigenous Black & Mi’Kmaq Initiative. Nathaniel carries on a national practice and is called to the bar in Nova Scotia, Ontario, and Nunavut.

LAURA
SPANER
EMPLOYMENT LAWYER & WORKPLACE INVESTIGATOR
Laura brings seven years of legal experience to Marshall Workplace Law. She is a skilled interviewer with a detailed and practical approach to investigations. She has led numerous complex investigations. Most recently, she worked at Ombudsman Toronto, handling complex files about municipal unfairness and maladministration. Prior to this role, she worked for the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, investigating matters involving sexual and physical abuse, fraud and improper billing practices, and unauthorized practice. She conducts her investigations through a trauma-informed lens. Laura has also worked as an administrative tribunal lawyer at a large municipality. Laura is a member of the Law Society of Ontario and holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Toronto.

BECKY
LANGILLE-ROWE
EMPLOYMENT LAWYER & WORKPLACE INVESTIGATOR
Prior to joining Marshall Workplace Law, Becky (she/her/hers) worked at a national law firm where she practiced labour and employment law, at a boutique labour and employment firm, and a regional law firm in Northern Ontario. Becky has advised a diverse client base with respect to all areas of labour and employment law, including large national and multinational businesses, charities, universities, municipalities, start-ups, government agencies, and school boards. Additionally, Becky has conducted and reviewed workplace investigations in a compassionate and trauma-informed manner and provided training on related topics, including human rights and health and safety obligations. Owing to her interest in this field, Becky’s practice now focuses exclusively on conducting workplace investigations. Becky holds an Honours Bachelor of Social Sciences in Conflict Studies and Human Rights and a J.D. from Lakehead University.

JORDAN
GOODMAN
EMPLOYMENT LAWYER & WORKPLACE INVESTIGATOR
Jordan is a lawyer and workplace investigator at Marshall Workplace Law. Jordan brings a wealth of investigative experience to the firm, with experience working for both sides of intricate government investigations. Jordan formerly practiced law at a leading
national business-law firm, where he provided clients with holistic, plain-language and actionable advice in a variety of practice areas, including employment law, white-collar defence and regulatory law. In this role, Jordan acted as defence counsel on high-profile
criminal and quasi-criminal investigations. Following this, Jordan became a criminal investigator at Competition Bureau Canada and gained experience on the law enforcement side of government investigations. In this capacity, he worked on several complex cartel investigations, honing his investigative skillset. Jordan graduated with
distinction from Toronto Metropolitan University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Criminology, with minors in Law and Psychology. Jordan went on to receive his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Ottawa’s English Common Law program.

SUMMER
SOMANI
EMPLOYMENT LAWYER & WORKPLACE INVESTIGATOR
Summer is a lawyer and workplace investigator at Marshall Workplace Law. Prior to joining the firm, Summer spent five years at a large financial institution providing advice on complex employee issues and conducting workplace investigations. Summer approaches all workplace investigations in a thoughtful manner. She is compassionate and empathetic, while understanding the importance of remaining neutral and objective. Summer has investigated allegations of workplace harassment (bullying), sexual harassment, toxic work environment, and human rights violations (discrimination). In addition to workplace investigations, Summer supported different lines of business with employee matters, including discipline/performance management, termination, and accommodation. She also managed human rights and unjust dismissal complaints. Before her role at the financial institution, Summer practiced in the areas of employment and insurance law for three years. Summer holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Toronto and a Juris Doctor from the University of Windsor.

HEATHER
LOBB
LEGAL ASSISTANT & OFFICE MANAGER
Heather holds a Master of Arts in Socio-Legal Studies from York University. In 2021, she completed her undergraduate degree of Honours Specialisation in Media Information and Technoculture (MIT) from the University of Western Ontario. Heather’s research focused largely on environmental racism, legal pluralism, critical race theory and decolonization theory. Outside of her academic work, Heather has committed herself to volunteer work. She has worked as an executive member of the Generocksity London Charity wherein she has been able to mobilize her knowledge and address disparity head-on. In her volunteer work, Heather has had the opportunity to connect with communities in Ontario that are affected deeply by class disparity and community divides. Through Generocksity, Heather has worked to create relationships with a robust network of local charities, organize community outreach and facilitate fundraising events.
